Party people hit the streets in Nassau to celebrate the very first Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. Thousands turned out to celebrate art, music, dance and Junkanoo. It’s one of the few post Lenten carnivals representing the spirit of “jubilation” after fasting anywhere in the world.
The three-day festival of cultural expression showcased a number of musical artists, including Soca artists Bunji Garland and Soca Band Visage. Carnival-goers also enjoyed the Cultural Village and many “Jumped Da Line” during “Road Fever,” a vibrant street parade of people dancing in colorful costumes… highlighting just why “It’s Better in the Bahamas!”
Plans are already underway for the next Junkanoo Carnival in 2016.
